Work-relatedBig Boss said to me today: I can't offer you sky high pay but I can offer you job opportunities and stability. She even mentioned the prospect of transferring after a year. But will I still be there after a year? I wonder.
The good thing about being in the Benefits team is I can see the salaries of the employees in the institutes under my charge up until the level of Deputy Director so yes, I do know how much my Boss and Big Boss and Big Big Boss are paid. Well, let's just say that's another con to staying on.
My first paycheck isn't in yet and I already have a list of things I want to do/get:
1. A trip to somewhere
2. A good quality black bag
3. An entry level DSLR
Must keep desires in check. Must must must.
Just read Lee Wei Ling's Sunday Times article. Man, do I love her writing. I thought this article was a little different from her other writeups- it was more personal; It touched on feelings. It reminded me of a recent dream I had that surprisingly, I still vaguely remember today. The most vivid part had me lamenting about my job over the phone to Ms K while she was looking after her baby. Clearly, two conclusions can be drawn:
1. I'm not satisfied in my job.
2. I miss sailing and all the sailing peeps!
But in spite of all the dissatisfaction relating to my job, I have to say that I am thankful that all the people that I have to work closely with are nice and helpful and do not mind my constant queries. This fact especially stood out today. Lucky lucky me.
Just taken to reading again. Current read: The Tipping Point. It makes me want to watch Sesame Street to see what all the hype is about. Am going to aim to complete at least one book every 2 months. Yeah, that's long. I'm a little ashamed to say that I only read on the way home from work. I'm only completing this book a tad faster because it occupied me while I was sitting in the salon chair having my hair rebonded and treated for painstakingly six hours!
Oh, a happy thing today - I finally set a high score for Minesweeper on my office computer! Okay, shouldn't be publicising. Plus, my lime green dress received compliments! :D
Tomorrow should be a good day because I'm having a newbies' orientation in the morning and am meeting the girls for dinner. :)
Hopefully, a mahjong game later this week! Last week's was cancelled. Ugh. Must expand mahjong network.
Another thing - I discovered how terrible the Chinese (I mean China Chinese) are as pet owners.
Intro to jobThree weeks - that's how long I've worked for. And guessed what? I just faked a sick leave last Friday. Good worker, or good worker? In my defence, it was for an important event - Sissy S's convocation -that I absolutely couldn't miss and I couldn't apply for annual leave earlier because I couldn't create the quota till mid last week. So let's just say yay, I've saved one of my precious annual leave for the Year-End Getaway.
An introduction to my job - I am working in the HR department, more specifically in the Benefits Team. The team is made up of four of us, a team leader who will only join us in September (he's still with the Finance department now), and depending on the areas we are in charge of, we report to either the Deputy Director or Senior Manager. The team's extremely young and new; The longest experience being two months. While I don't quite like the environment, I must say that the people are a pretty friendly and supportive bunch to work with, thankfully.
I wouldn't say I'm enjoying work but I'm settling. Quite certain I wouldn't stay for too long though. Maybe it's my mindset of wanting to work in the private sector or maybe it's because I like a more interactive environment, I'll probably just get my one year experience or stay till I get my bonus (it's in March) and I'm out.
Sissy S's away on business trip again. ENVIOUS.
Too late for a WednesdayYes, I'm actually saying this - 1am is too late a sleeping time on a Wednesday.
I really ought to be sleeping now but I was doing my regular blog reads and came across this:
why do people choose to hide things from their parents, not talk to them at all, or at times even find them bothersome and annoying? like hello, they are the people who worked their way through 70% of their lifespan to provide a damn shelter over your head. the least you could do is communicate with them, or at least tell them what's going on in your life. how hard is that? if you can spend 24/7 with your other half, 3 hour lunches gossiping with colleagues and friends, one whole night of msning and facebooking, is it alot to ask for to just spare an hour of your time to just catch up with your parents? it's sad to know or hear when friends tell me they find it hard to talk to their parents. what is so god damn hard? even though my dad is your typical silent father, i make it an effort to fill him in on my life during dinners or even in the mornings when i send him to work. and i would give anything to talk to my mom again. so pls, for christ's sake. take some time off to talk to your parents. however scary or naggy they may seem, parents love their children with all their heart. human beings are a bunch of retards sometimes. not knowing how to treasure people until they lose the person forever. and all the what ifs and regrets start pouring out. pls, i don't sympathize with you. you had your chance.Did I mention that despite having to leave home half an hour earlier, my dad sends me to work everyday now. I should try to make an effort.
Going placesI finally understand why Sissy S hardly uses the lappy when she comes home ever since she started working. Working is so draining. Although I must say, I still have time for mahjong every week. Heh. In fact, I played 3 games last weekend. :D
Wanted to talk about the YOG opening ceremony which was horribly let down by the lack of coordination and planning for the introduction of participating countries (I liked the ideas and concepts a lot but hated the lack of tidiness - for the lack of a better word - in their implementation), start of work, my work, how the only people I've been meeting regularly are the Econs peeps, and a reflection on my job hunt experience. Oh, also the first meetup with WH and LH after half a year. But! I don't feel like writing. >.<
Will Must blog about at least one of the above this week before I forget everything.
By the way, I like the YOG 'Everyone' song. And I want to take pics with the torch before it disappears!
